Great updates here! Many great links and pieces. Was this link supposed to go to the piece about Charlie Sheen (primarily) in the Times? It was a valid well done piece (I just was expecting more about “The Bachelor,” et al.).

exactly. it is horribly bi-polar and yet, as a kid, I was one of those people. I loved dogs, cats, but I was a “meat” eater. It took years of living and learning until I had my “a-ha” moment. I worked as a wildlife rehabilitator (volunteer through the wild bird fund – http://wildbirdfund.com
and when I handled small animals and saw how they struggled to get well in the face of all odds I realized that no animal — regardless of it’s “category” (farm animal, wild animal, etc) wants to die. That’s when I became a straight-up vegan.

It makes me (try) to understand that — like me — some people will take time to realize the pain they are inflicting by supporting the madness of the meat and dairy “industries.” Thank you for commenting!

Johanna, I couldn’t agree with you more. Our capacity, as a species for compartmentalizing and rationalizing is astounding. It’s mind-boggling that people can cry for the geese, or primp their precious designer dogs, all while they chow down on a hamburger (flesh of a tortured cow, who lived and died in pain) and glass of milk (product of extreme confinement, painful, engorged udders, artificial insemination, birth and immediate loss of one’s newborn to the veal industry). To authorize the killing of non-migratory geese that do not fly high enough to cause problems is just reckless. Bloomberg is a reactionary, narrow-minded, imbecile.

Someone with such a clear inability to look for deeper solutions has no business being a public official.
